Amazon leads corporate heavyweights in public-private forests scheme
Amazon, Nestle, Boston Consulting, McKinsey, Unilever, Salesforce, Airbnb, GSK, and Nestlé have thrown their weight behind a new $1bn scheme aimed at tackling deforestation. Under its proposed scheme, companies and governments would pay tropical countries such as Brazil, Indonesia and Ghana for carbon credits — which organisations can use to compensate for their emissions — linked to the avoidance of deforestation. Since trees absorb carbon, cutting them down counts as a source of emissions.
