Goiás Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) With Emergent to Supply Carbon Credits to the LEAF Coalition

13 November | Belém: Goiás has become the latest Brazilian state to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emergent. The agreement with the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development of Goiás (SEMAD), expresses the interest of both parties in cooperating to enable potential future transactions of high-integrity forest carbon credits from Goiás’s jurisdictional REDD+ programs, following independent validation, verification, and issuance through ART.
Andréa Vulcanis, Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development, Goiás said: ‘This is a significant step for the state, demonstrating our intention to move forward with the LEAF Coalition to receive international financing in exchange for our large-scale efforts to combat deforestation across the territory of Goiás. These resources will help us develop sustainable agricultural practices and generate tangible social benefits for our population.’
